Jeff - In all probability, Andrew has the correct answer however your use of the term 'ticking' noise throws me. I've heard it described as a buzz as in a swarm of bees, but never a ticking noise. Just wander if you may be hearing two entirely different sounds. Could be that you are also hearing tappet noise from the valves as well. It would also die down when you pull in your clutch and let the engine revs drop. This is somewhat normal and nothing to fret about. A little is better than none which would represent not enough valve lash and the possible chance of burnt valves.
